Mother Mary: I am Mary

Ann: Good morning, Mother Mary, Anita* says you always have to wear that blue and white outfit.

Mother Mary: Good morning, Ann. Today I would like to start fresh. You may call me Mary, and I will thus be able to ditch what you refer to as the “blue and white outfit.” Not that it does not upon occasion serve its purpose, for it makes me recognizable and provides a certain protective covering, but, as many of you have noticed, that which protects can also isolate.

Yes, I was the mother of Jesus, one of the world's greatest teachers. And yet, not to put weight to a truism, I was just the vessel as is any mother.

The souls that are born upon this planet, and that includes you and me, are their own unique beings. As mother or father, we are entrusted with the education of that soul. Sometimes we provide love and guidance. Sometimes that education is negative in the extreme, and abuse, neglect, and trauma result.

It sounds facile to say that each particular soul choses its own setting but so it is. That is not to excuse the horrific behaviour of those who prey on children, but to explain that, somewhere back in each soul’s history there was a choice and a plan.

If you have not yet discovered your own soul path, think of the trauma or more difficult experiences in your own lives. Review the whys and wherefores of those experiences and where they led you on your own life’s journey, and perhaps a pattern will become clear.

For myself, I was a woman alone in a difficult time for women - much more so, I may add, than is the case now, though we still have a long way to go. I was – and I had to be – stronger than most, and my path and purpose was to discover that strength.

Fortunately I loved being a mother and gloried in all my children which is why it is now my greatest pleasure to work with children and parents as they discover their life stories and to teach, as I discovered then, that we do not create any of our children. They came through us; they were not of us.

No one in your life is your creation or property, nor do you belong in that way to anyone else. We come to work out our own journeys toward kindness and compassion in the roles we are given, but we live independent of those roles, neither using nor allowing ourselves to be used. Instead we reach out our hands and help each other along from our own strong center of gravity, and so it is to that center that we must attend to first before we can offer authentic help to others.

I am Mary. I am here to walk with you if my presence would be of assistance. I ask that you reach out to me in the same spirit if you are so inclined.

Picture me now. I am a fairly tall, big boned woman with rather short brown hair which is slightly curly. I am wearing a tan tunic dress with a darker apron, and my hair is held back with a cloth tie. My lower arms are bare and I am carrying a basket. My hands are a good size and rough. I have sandals on my feet. I am Mary.

Thank you Mary, for showing your true physical presence to us, it does help us relate and see ourselves in you and our strength in ourselves.

Me too! Also, like this phrase, "that which protects can also isolate."

I definitely like the "physical" description Mary's gives us. It makes her feel "real" and approachable. Like it! Thank you both!
