Oppression: Guidance From Those Who Have Been There

I asked and they all came out of the woodwork. Never think we are without help.

Ann: Richard?

Richard Burton: Yes, love, I’m here. Burning sage is a good idea, dark energies have been emboldened.  You want to know about the election, what happened, whether it was rigged, whatever.

Well, yes, love, purveyors of misinformation, the trolls and low liers, foreign and domestic, were set out among the people by nefarious forces, whether more direct methods were employed, that I do not see.

Many who voted for Trump did so based on false information, and false information will keep them tethered to the hell bound cause, rats following the pied piper over the bridge into the river.

And yet, take heart in what your good friend John McCain has told you.  New heroes will arise. Perhaps you, any one of you, will be one of those to pick up this gauntlet. The important thing is to never give up even though darkness gathers and you question your own connection.

Stay with your truth, do not be swayed.  Put your doubt to the side – yes, I know you have it – and take the high road, for it will lead you home.

Speak your truth, now more than ever, and hold it fast.  The light you shine will go further in the darkness than you know, and it will allow others to see their way also.

Read the works of the heroes of the oppressed, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman.  Others have faced down dark waves as bad as the one now facing you and your country. A tsunami may be in the making, but even so, all the more reason to dig in, look up, and speak out.

Keep your loved ones safe.  Offer them joy in the natural world around you, teach your young ones to nourish their own joy, for it will sustain them as they too navigate these perilous times.

 Ann: John?

John McCain: Yes, of course. Did you think I would shuck and jive at first sign of a good fight?  No siree.

It’s as I told you, there are new heroes who will arise in these times, new standard bearers of the truth, and a god-almighty contrast between them and the collection of scurrilous sheep who have ba-a-a-d their way into the White House.

The stink is sickening and off putting - though they have yet to notice so steeped are they in the success of this perfidious power grab. They will choke on their own vomit as the rot around them begins to reek to high heaven such that no amount of spin and self-deception can keep it from seeping into their very bones.

Yes, everything will be destroyed, but this will give us a clean slate upon which to rebuild.  Sad to say, there was already rot in the institutions of government that for many years have curried favor with the powerful few at the expense of the many.

The world is changing, death and rebirth, agonizing, yes, but necessary.  Once we come out on the other side of this dark journey, and we will, we will never go back, and, finally, we will rebuild something of lasting value upon the bedrock of faith, community and love.

Yes, it will take a fire of massive proportion to bring this cleansing to pass, but it will happen.  Keep this vision within sight as you tunnel your way through.

Ann: Bobby?

Robert Kennedy: Yes.  A heartbreak of personal and galactic proportions.  That a child of mine should have turning into an agent of the dark....

But no matter, so many have been turned from the light by addictive lies, scapegoating, and promises of glory and power.  Well, they have the power now, but the glory will never arise.  Rather they will sink like the scum that they are into black ooze of their own making, and those with courage, John’s new heroes, and the old soldiers who refuse to give in will eventually carry the day.

Gandhi:  What you don’t seem to realize is that victory is still possible, not only possible but assured because greed and violence cannot stand against the love of what some call the Holy Spirit and what is in fact the energizing force of all creation.

I know this is true.  I lived it.  I suffered through it.  I despaired, but never did I give up and that is what I am asking of you.  Martin?

Martin Luther King Jr:  Call me Michael as that was my real name.  “Martin” I took on as symbolic of right speaking truth to power and then effecting change through its own radiant life force.  Nothing can stand against the radiance of the Divine, nothing.  The light may dim here and there, but only to throw the shadow of darkness into bold relief, completely insubstantial when exposed.  Evil has no power when faced with the implacable wall of God’s goodness, his mercy and compassion.

Auntie (Harriet Tubman):  Sho’ nuff.  Now don’t you flake out on me, girl, just when we’re gettin’ down to it.  It’s never to late in the day to be marchin’ for truth so you jes strap it on and take this down:

The world ain’t never been fair.  Soon or later in every society somebody grabs the whip hand and tries to make slaves of everybody else.  And a right lot o’ trouble they can cause too.

But it never lasts.  It jess don’t have legs.  None of them trumped-up peacocks can out run the Divine and that’s what they tryin’ to do.

This is the beginning of the last stand and, however horrific it gets, you jess keep yo’ eyes on the light that shines above the smoke they puttin’ out there.

This is what you hold onto, nothing else is real but the love of our Creator, and he won’t let us down because we carry his flag, his banner, his wholeness in love and compassion.

So let that shine through you and, don’t forget, he knows how to fight whether that be like Mr. Gandhi by never raisin’ a hand, takin’ to the streets like Martin - you are Martin to me - or marchin’ in the trenches and on the battlefield like this old woman did.

We didn’t come this far to falter, we jes got to pull up our socks, strap on our weapons of choice, and keep goin’.

You got help, girl, you all do. Reach for it, you will not be denied, and one way or another, if you never give up, you will come home victorious.
